I-376 Parkway East Closure Coming This Summer: What Priory Guests Should Know
PITTSBURGH — PennDOT has scheduled a full closure of I-376 Parkway East between the Squirrel Hill Tunnel and the Edgewood/Swissvale interchange (Exit 77) from July 10 through August 3, 2026. The 25-day closure is part of the $95 million Commercial Street Bridge Replacement Project, which will use accelerated bridge construction techniques to laterally slide a new bridge into place — one of the largest projects of its kind in Pennsylvania.
The affected stretch of I-376 sits on Pittsburgh's East End, several miles from The Priory Hotel's North Side location, so most guests driving to the hotel will not need to change their route. The closure is most relevant to travelers whose trip would normally pass through the Squirrel Hill/Edgewood/Swissvale section of Parkway East — for example, those arriving from Monroeville, the Pennsylvania Turnpike, or other points east of the city.
During the closure, PennDOT is routing through traffic off I-376 at the Wilkinsburg exit (78B), with drivers reconnecting to the Parkway closer to Oakland. Guests planning a route through that corridor should build in extra travel time or consider an alternate approach into downtown and the North Side.
The Priory Hotel remains fully open and easily reachable throughout the closure. Guests with questions about the best route to the hotel are welcome to contact us directly, and can find official detour maps and updates on PennDOT's project page.
