In this article on the hep and happening in Pittsburgh, the author interviewed four prominent Pittsburghers regarding their favorite places in the city. The Priory Hotel was singled out by Andy Warhol Museum Executive Director Eric Shiner as his favorite place for a "sound sleep." Said Mr. Shiner: "It's a unique property, a renovated monastery, with events held in a former church."
Pittsburgh Staycation PackageWith uncertain economic times, many folks are conserving economic resources and, rather than jetting to Hawaii or the Caribbean, taking time to explore their own backyard. This phenomenon, known as “staycations,” has been reported on in local and national media noting the sharp uptick in travelers taking short vacations to destinations within easy driving distance of their homes.
Pittsburgh, with its concentration of museums, zoos, theater and other attractions, as well as its varied architecture and geography, is in a sense a staycation paradise. An easy drive from Buffalo, Erie, Cleveland, Akron, Youngstown, West Virginia and western Maryland, and Altoona and Harrisburg, a Pittsburgh staycation is at most a few hour drive for millions of people.
